tell me about yourselves

G: hi, i'm georgia, and i'm the senior merchandise planner at moochi. i was born and raised in auckland and moved to wellington for uni to study fashion design & business, where i met my husband, taylor. i’m a bit of an introvert at heart and kind of goofy. i have a terrible sense of humour, sarcastic most if not all the time and always cracking dad jokes. tay and i love to take the mick out of each other - got to keep each other humble (!)

T: hi i'm taylor, thanks for having me, i'm a freelance photographer and videographer and i grew up in new plymouth. i moved to wellington to study for four years before georgia and i came to auckland. luckily, or unluckily, my job is my hobby too, so you’ll often find me working on personal projects in my down time

G: we complement each other well despite our differences - i'm the planner (it’s in my job title!), always ready for a new adventure or project, whereas tay is more laid back, a ‘go with the flow’ type. we've learned to blend our approaches over the years, i drive the adventures while tay brings his sense of calm and reminds me to sit back and enjoy the moment

you've both contributed amazing work to moochi,
can you tell us about your relationship with the brand?

G: i've been working for moochi for a short while, 4 months so far. as a merchandise planner, i focus on ensuring we have the right products by analysing sales data and market trends. what i love about this role is that i get to collaborate with all departments to make sure we are giving our customers what they want, from product mix like style and colour to working with the production team to make sure we have just the right inventory at the right time. overall, i’m passionate about creating a great shopping experience for our customers and helping our locally owned business succeed

moochi was such a big presence in wellington, for me that was the time when the wrap pants were a must have for everyone and their mums! the brand has been such an icon in the new zealand fashion industry, i love working for nz owned retailers and want to continue to support and contribute where i can

T: i was the first to work with moochi back in 2022, that’s when i shot my first campaign with the team! i've done about 6 or 7 campaign shoots now. it's been cool seeing the progression of the brand from the first job i've been on to the most recent. the brand’s aesthetic ties in really well with my creative style, i tend to go for a relaxed feeling that juxtaposes against fast cuts, creating pace but maintaining a casual vibe. we'll often incorporate soft background music or natural soundscapes to create a soothing atmosphere

how did you get into fashion/creative industries?

G: my whole family is in the creative industry in some way shape or form – my grandmother was a painter, my sister a graphic designer, my mum dabbles in all the above

we have both always had a love for fashion but for me my passion lead me to study it at university. while I was there, i quickly learnt that fashion design wasn’t for me and it took me a while to figure out how i could combine the things i was good at with my passion for the industry. i sort of fell into planning as a result not really understanding what it was at the time but have never looked back

T: my family is also creative so i also grew up having an interest in that whole realm. i studied photographic design in uni and got into working in house for a big nz fashion company. i've also worked with a lot of rental studios, doing a bit of lighting design as well as photography and videography. i've been freelance for almost 3 years now - moochi being a company i've worked with from the start

congratulations on your new home! it's beautiful. we were chatting about your renos earlier,
what have you been inspired by?

thank you! the whole process has been extremely exciting. buying a mid century home, we wanted to make sure we kept the integrity of its roots. we fell in love with the house as soon as we saw it but obviously needed a few modern comforts… things like insulation and lights that don’t flicker in rain

we have always prioritised form alongside function, it’s been important for our house and furniture to reflect who we are. like all millennials undergoing a reno we have a pinterest board full of inspo and are also following some fantastic pages like ‘easytiger’and ‘ourmidcenturyrenonz’ who are constantly inspiring us. we are lucky to have a lot of art on the walls done by my grandmother, mum and taylor of course. we love collecting vintage or quirky furniture and will always bring something back from overseas to add to the collection

how do you like to take time for yourselves?

we have done a lot of travel together over the years which for us is our down time. because our weeks are usually pretty hectic and it’s often hard to get a lot of time off, this is how we get to spend quality time together. we've travelled southeast asia, bali, australia and a lot of europe together

outside of that we both prioritise fitness. we also love spending summer weekends at our family home in the coromandel, georgia with a book in hand and taylor usually asleep in the sun. most sunday’s you will find us at family dinner - it’s loud, it's fun and full of great food

When did you meet!

first day at uni, we were neighbours in the uni halls

Favourite date night?

somewhere with good food and good cocktails. Japanese would be our go to but love trying new places, especially in the new neighbourhood

One thing you can always agree on

other than Georgia is always right, we will only regret the things we didn’t do

Favourite memory together?

our wedding was pretty amazing, nothing overly formal just a great night with all those we love. It was a week before NZ went into our first lockdown so we were so fortunate to have this happen with no interruptions. Ouside of this our honeymoon was incredible and has pushed us to prioritise travel, we had to postpone for 2 years which made the experience more special

What are you watching/listening to?

We rarely agree on what to watch so most nights you will find us sitting beside each other watching different things. However we do love a good mini series, the bodyguard, mare of eastown, normal people, the undoing, big little lies etc.

Dream destination?

We have a few on the list for the next couple of years - Japan, Morrocco, sicily and Portugal are at the top right now but we want to go back to the likes of spain and Croatia and explore more

Georgia: how would you describe your style?

i don’t have one particular style; i would say it’s classic with a twist, nothing too feminine or fussy.
i have always invested in quality pieces that can stick around in my wardrobe for years to come. i've never really been interested in fast fashion or things that are truly of the now, but love clothing that will stand the test of time while still being relevant and modern. i think this is why i'm drawn to moochi, i think we align in that respect

what are you wearing for...

Work From Home?

i'm all about comfort, right now warmth (while we await insulation) and something I can be caught on camera with and wouldn’t be embarrassed if someone came to the door. i’m all about an oversized shirt over some leggings paired with a casual slide or anything from key pieces. It has to be something easy to throw on and that will go with anything, don’t have to put too much thought into it but still feel good starting the day

Weekend days?

Going into summer I don’t think you can go wrong with a linen pant paired with a simple but well fitting Tee like the urban tee. I also don’t think you can go wrong with a matching set like the select skirt and the onward short sleeve shacket

Date night?

Black dress always, don’t know how many I own but you can never go wrong like the Lyrical or relive dress with a denim jacket. The moment dress that is coming out in the next few weeks is top of my wish list but I also love to buy relatively formal dresses like the column dress that is coming out in P5 and pair back with a pair of the enclose slide so I can wear it anytime
